Dimitrios shipwreck

Dimitrios is a Greek shipwreck famous due to its picturesque location on an easily accessible sandy beach near Gythio, Greece.

It was a small 67m cargo transport ship. Made in Denmark in 1950, it was used to smuggle cigarettes from Turkey to Italy.

The ship was arrested by authorities in Gythio (Greek city) in June 1981 because it was considered unsafe to sail. Port authorities asked the owners to remove the ship, but no one came.

In November of that year there was a storm and the ship drifted, ending up on Glyfada beach, 5km from the port. December 23, 1981 it “stuck” there and no one tried to remove i
There are rumors that they set fire to cigarettes. Others say this is actually a ghost ship of unknown origin.
