Kaiafas Thermal Springs

Perhaps one of the most famous medical tourism destinations in the country, Kaiafas Thermal Springs, attract hundreds of visitors from all over the country every year.

The hot waters of the springs, which were known since ancient times for their healing properties, originate from the cave of the Nymphs Anigrides, where, according to legend, Dardanus, ancestor of the Trojans, was born, while another beautiful tradition attributes the medicinal property of the waters to the Nymphs who lived in the forests of the area.

There is also an amazing crag in the zone that if you are into climbing, it is definitely a must see place.

Out of the touristic buzz

There is spa in the lake that seems to be popular, but we stayed in the other side of the lake. This is the place on google maps

We parked in front of the Therme, that at the moment was not working, even if during the afternoon the gates were opened it was not receiving people, also the swimming pool was dry.

The thermal springs blows in the mountains, right behind the therme and the water flows in a small river following the road till it reaches the lake. The place smells like sulfuric water, but not at the point to be disgusting.

Full of life

It is really interesting to see how full of life the place is. When you think about sulfuric water, seems like a inhospitable place but in the river you can easily spot turtles, snakes, fishes you can hear birds during the days and frogs during the night.

More photos of the place

We didn’t see people swimming in the river, indeed it does not seems suitable.
